Los Amigos Chapter

On February 28, 2004 at the Sams quarterly International Board of Director's meeting, Andy Schouten unveiled a stunning protrait of Dona Anita Espinoza, one of the guiding spirits and founders of The Flying Samaritans.  The portrait was the result of a visit to the village of El Rosario by Harley Brown, an internationally recognized painter specializing in portraying ethnic figures of the Southwest.

The artist's stated goal was "to capture the amazing aura and strength that radiates from Dona Anita."  The bold swirls of brilliant color and the size of the figure do convey a sense of power and great presence, which is nevertheless sublimated to the central impression of joy and peaceful serenity shining in her face.  It is the face of a hundred years, which has seen the ravages of civil war and drought and grinding poverty, along with the blessings of a community and the fruits of altruism, and has accepted it all with wisdom and humor.  We think you'll agree that Haraley Brown has captured the essence of a rare spirit.

A limited edition of giclée prints is now available.  Each is matted and framed and carries an identifying nameplate.  The price, which includes a copy of "Anita, the El Rosario Legend" is $595.  Of that amount, $250 will be donated to the Flying Samaritans.

As it is impossible to convey the richness of the painting in this image, we suggest going to www.DonaAnitaEspinozaMuseum.com.  For more information, please contact Andy Schouten weekdays at 800-546-6707.
